7 Homemade pesticides

 

1.     Vegetable Oil Spray

 

To make the oil spray insecticide, mix one cup of vegetable oil with one tablespoon of liquid soap and shake thoroughly, and then it can be diluted by adding two teaspoons of the oil spray mix with one quart of water and after shaking thoroughly, spray directly on the foliage which is affected by the little pests. The oil coats the bodies of the insects and suffocates them thus killing the pests. It is very effective in controlling pests like aphids, mites, thrips, etc.

 

2.     Neem oil spray

 

Neem oil extracted from the seed kernel of neem has an insecticidal property by disrupting the life cycle of insects. Neem oil acts as an antifeedant and hence the plants sprayed with neem oil are generally avoided by pests. Neem oil being organic is highly desirable by gardeners and can be used as a preventive spray before an actual infestation occurs. Neem oil readily available in the market under many brand names at affordable prices. It can be by mixing 1 tablespoon of neem oil in 1L of water and spraying it on plants. Don’t over-spraying should be avoided. Spray every 15 days recommended for best results.

 

3. Garlic and onion spray

 

The spray is very effective against many common pests like aphids, whiteflies, thrips, etc. Make the paste of medium-sized onion and one clove of garlic and mix with 1-liter water and strain the mixture using a strainer and mix 1 teaspoon of dish wash soap or shampoo and spray the solution on the plants. The strong smell of garlic and onion will keep away the pest from your plants.

 

 

3.     Soap spray

 

A simple soap solution can also effectively control many pests. The lather of the soap will cover the insects and suffocate them to death. Liquid soap is recommended over bars or detergents.

 

5. Alcohol spray

 

The alcohol spray solution is also very effective in repelling insects. Mix 2ooml of 70 percent isopropyl alcohol in 1L of water. Fill the solution in a spray bottle and spray the solution on affected plants. Repeat spraying every 7-14 days until you get rid of the problem. The solution can effectively control soft-bodied insects like mealy bugs, scales, aphids, etc.

 

6. Bio enzyme spray

 

Dilute the bio enzyme solution with water in a ratio of 1:100 and spray it on the plant. The solution not only gives nutrition to the plant but also repels the insects from the plants.

 

7. Ash

 

Collect fine ash from the fireplace and sprinkle it over plants in the morning when the plant surfaces are moist due to dew. Ash will coat the insects that are present on the surfaces and they will suffocate and will eventually kill them. Using ash to control aphids is practice since time immemorial.
