Bio-enzyme: A potent tonic from waste
Bio-enzyme is the by-product of yeast/bacteria .which is chemically a mixture of complex organic substances such as proteins, salts, and other materials by the process of fermentation.
Bio enzyme is very useful in agriculture. They have the property to repellent pests organically without using any chemical pesticides. Spraying the diluted solution of bio enzyme on plants will reduce the incidence of pests and diseases. Bio enzymes are also known to enhance photosynthesis in plants. Application of bio enzyme in the root zone can control soil-borne diseases and enhance soil fertility as it rich source of N:P: K.
Bio enzyme can also use as a natural cleanser. Using bio enzyme to clean floors can repel insects like mosquitoes, cockroaches, flies, etc. Bio enzyme being organic doesn't leave any toxic residue and hence safe for pets and toddlers in the house. Moreover, bio enzyme can be used to clean the pet wash.

How to make bio enzyme at home:
Ingredients :
- Jaggery( 1 portion)
- Fruit peels( 3 portions)
- Water(10 portions)
Procedure:
Add everything together in an airtight container.
Ferment for 1-2 months. It may take longer during winter.
The addition of yeast, will hasten the process of fermentation and the product will be ready in 1 month.
Once the product is ready strain using a strainer or a piece of cloth. Fill the products in bottles then they can be stored or use instantly.
How to use it?
For foliar application: Dilute it to 1:100 ratio.
For root application: Dilute it to a 1:50 ratio
For cleaning purposes: Add 50 ml of bio enzyme in 1 bucket of water.
Note:
The use of yeast is optional.
Fruit peels or whole fruit if available can be used.
Varieties of fruits can be used like papaya, grapes, banana, etc. but citrus gives the most pleasing result.
Rotten fruits can also be used.
Also, dried fruit peels should not be wasted.
